From Falstaff Farms

Raised properly, on pasture — not in barns

Our Sussex hens are raised outdoors on pasture, with fresh air, room to roam, and a diet chosen for quality rather than industrial convenience. The result is an egg with richer colour, better flavour, and a more honest way of farming behind it.

Why these eggs are different

Pasture-raised

Our hens spend their days outdoors with space to roam and forage.

Better flavour

Deep golden yolks and a fuller flavour that reflects careful farming.

Proper standards

Traditional breed, slower production

From our farm

A more direct and transparent alternative to industrial eggs.

What customers say

The yolk colour and flavour are on another level. These are the first eggs I actively look forward to cooking with each week.

- Thomas, Surrey
Fresh, rich, and consistently excellent. Falstaff has replaced supermarket eggs in our kitchen entirely.

Frequently asked questions

How should I store the eggs?

For best quality, store the eggs in the fridge — they will keep well for 3+ weeks when refrigerated.

Our eggs are laid with a natural protective coating called the bloom, which helps seal the shell. If left unwashed, they can also be kept at room temperature for up to 7–10 days in a cool environment.

We recommend keeping them in their carton to protect flavour and freshness.

How can I tell if an egg is still fresh?

You can use a simple water test at home:

  • Sinks and lies flat → very fresh
  • Sinks but stands upright → still good to eat
  • Floats → no longer fresh, discard

This works because eggs naturally lose moisture over time, causing them to become more buoyant.

What do the hens eat?

Our hens forage naturally on pasture, eating grasses, insects, and whatever they find outdoors.

This is supplemented with a carefully chosen feed based on grains such as wheat and peas, designed to support their health and egg quality.

We focus on simple, traditional feed without unnecessary additives, avoiding the highly processed rations common in industrial systems. We can confirm that our eggs contain no corn or soy

Why do your eggs not have a best-before date?

We mark each egg with the date it was laid, rather than using a standard best-before label.

This gives you full transparency. When stored properly, eggs remain usable well beyond the lay date — especially under refrigeration.

How fresh are the eggs when shipped?

Eggs are dispatched in small batches and are typically recently laid at the time of shipping.

Because each egg is individually dated with a "laid on" date, you can always see exactly how fresh they are when they arrive.
